Easter Seals - Michigan's approach to helping your child/family is known as Person Centered Planning. Person Centered Planning was put forth as a concept as a result of the Michigan Mental Health Code, Act No. 290, Public Acts of 1995. Person Centered Planning means that a client's opinions, preferences and values will direct treatment services. Our professional staff will assist you in this process as well as advise you of the supports and services that can assist your family. The advantages to Person Centered Planning include:
- Adults, families and children have an opportunity to design their own treatment plan.
- If they choose, this process may include establishing a support team to help build and carry out a client's plan. The team may include people who are important to the family, such as family members, friends, neighbors, school personnel, religious supports and other professionals working in partnership.
- The plan is based on things that are important to the clients and their families, that is, their hopes and desires.
- Treatment decisions are based on a client's or family's abilities and strengths, rather than their limitations
- With cooperative partnership and realistic discussion, positive and helpful solutions can be found that will improve the quality of life for clients and their families.
