ACMH (Association for Children’s Mental Health) is an advocacy and educational group comprised of parents of youngsters with emotional illness.  ACMH provides advocacy, support and information on IEPCs, current special education laws, rights and available services.  For more information call 1-800-782-0883 (Parents only) or 517-336-7222.

Easter Seals - Michigan feels strongly that persons receiving treatment services also need to build their own personal network of resources outside of treatment.  In Person Centered Planning, we encourage clients to identify those in their lives who play an integral role and on whom they can count when the client needs extra support.  Additionally, the following is a brief list of community resources for those who may need some specialized support when working with the child’s school district on creating a service plan. 

MACED (Michigan Association for Children with Emotional Disturbances) is an advocacy group made up of parents, social work and legal professionals who provide advocacy and assistance with IEPCs and parent to parent support.  For more information call 248-552-0044.

The Michigan Foster Education Resource Network (MI-FERN) - MI-FERN enhances the opportunities of youth who are current and past foster care recipients in the state of Michigan, to improve community awareness of the unique needs of foster care youth in their pursuit of post-secondary education, and improves the quality of life for former foster youth by helping them to reach their educational goals.  Visit their website at: http://www.mi-fern.org/

OCAP (Oakland County Council for Children and Adults with Psychiatric Disabilities) is an advocacy and educational group comprised of consumers, secondary consumers, advocates, interested community members and mental health professionals.  OCAP identifies mental health needs in the community and advocates or works directly to see the needs are met.  The group educates the community about mental health issues, provides forums on best practices and links parents to advocates within the organization.  For more information call 248-280-3737.
