Autism Services
Autism Services Easter Seals Michigan is a leader in providing comprehensive, emerging and evidence-based treatment for individuals and their families. We offer innovative therapies as well as training, support, and education services to create life-changing solutions for those with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. We are focused on helping them to live, learn, work and play in their communities by:
Our Services: Easter Seals Michigan offers individualized services implemented by specialized team members for children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Our team focuses on evidence-based interventions that are proven to be effective in developing the skills of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and similar disabilities. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) - An applied behavior analytic program begins with an individual assessment to determine the targeted behavior and skills that will be the focus of treatment. ABA principles and techniques will foster basic skills such as looking, listening, and imitating, as well as complex skills such as reading, conversing and understanding another person’s perspective. The P.L.A.Y. Project™- (Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters) is an early intervention program for young children (ages 14 months to 8 years) diagnosed with ASD. The program is based on the DIR® (Developmental, Individualized, Relationship-Based) theory of Stanley Greenspan, M.D., the practice of which is commonly referred to as “floor time.” P.L.A.Y. Project consultants assist caregivers in identifying individualized methods to foster and develop social connectedness. Speech and Language Therapy - (SLT) provides functional communication skills for children with disabilities and other special needs such as diagnoses on the autism spectrum. All Easter Seals’ therapy treatments are provided by Speech and Language Pathologists (SLP’s) who are certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and specialize in pediatric services. They work closely with each child’s family, school, physician, and other health care practitioners to set treatment goals that are personalized and realistic. Interventions will assess speech, language, and communication needs; strengthen receptive and expressive language development; enhance auditory processing; address augmentative and alternate communication (ACC) needs; treat voice disorders and stuttering; and improve intelligibility. Occupational Therapy - (OT) services are designed to assist children in the improvement of fine motor, gross motor, vision, sensory, balance, communication and social skills. The OT program promotes the achievement and improvement of fine, oral, gross, and visual motor skills; addresses hand-eye coordination to improve skills; assists families and children with developmental delays by teaching basic tasks such as bathing, dressing, teeth brushing and feeding, muscle strengthening and coordination activities and sensory integration techniques to improve focus, social skills and behavior. Therapy is play-based, facilitates language development, and incorporates behavior techniques using positive reinforcement. Treatment goals are developed in collaboration with the family, school, and other medical and service providers. Our licensed therapists specialize in working with children who have autism and / or other disabilities, providing interventions to a wide range of individuals in regards to age and functioning level. They focus on helping children and adults better learn to communicate, socialize, cope with sensory issues and improve behavior. As part of a circle of support, our therapists work in partnership with each child and family to develop an integrated treatment plan utilizing input from the child, family, physicians and school. Easter Seals Michigan is unique in its goal to provide comprehensive services to families by combining therapy, education, respite, family support and recreation in a single service plan designed to meet the needs of each family. Training and Education A.N.S.W.E.R.S. - This seven hour workshop stands for autism, network, services, wellness, education, resource, session. Participants learn about autism spectrum disorders, treatment options, educational advocacy, communication and sensory issues, and resources available in the community. The workshop is offered in collaboration with community agencies and partners in the field of autism services and advocacy.
